We understand that searching for a home security system can be stressful and confusing, but that is why we are here! There are so many different home security companies you could choose to go with but how do you know they are the right fit for you and your family.
First, You should look at why do you want the security system. Some people want the security system to prevent damage to their property or maybe its to monitor your children, babysitters, dog sitters etc.
Basic Security System
A basic system will get you prevention and protection from a burglary. It’ll start by making the burglar think twice before they choose your house as a target. The protection feature of the alarm system is the sensors. The sensors will notify the central station who will then notify the police and at the same time sound an alarm so to scare the burglar off.
Advance Security System
A more advanced system can range from just adding a few more sensors to complete home automation with camera’s, locks, and lights that can be controlled from you smart phone or tablet.
Types of extras include:
Fire and Carbon Monoxide Alarms
When you are looking for a security provider:
Make sure you call around to at least 3 or 4 different companies to get a quote on service, installation, and monitoring fees. Some companies might say free installation but with free installation comes a lot of hidden fees and restrictions.
Look for companies that have a good rating and that are recommended from people who already use them as a provider. Talk to your neighbors.
Look to see if there are any complaints against the company and if those complaints were resolved.
What is the cost?
Ask them what the cost would be entire year, quarterly, or monthly and what all comes with that cost.
How much is installation and set-up charges?
How much does the company charge to install the system? Are fees included in the quoted price?
Remember when companies offer free installation you will normally make up for that with longer contracts and higher monthly monitoring cost.
Do you have to sign a contract?
If you are being monitored you can almost guarantee you are going to have to have to sign a contract. Typically if the contract is longer it will be cheaper in the long run because your prices are locked in, this isn’t true with some companies. Make sure you read the your contract.
Ask yourself, is this company in it to protect me and my family or are they in it for the sale. Most local companies are going to be in it for your family, when you go with a big corporate company such as ADT and Vivent you may not get what you really want out of your security system.
